»One Step Beyond – The Mine Revisited« (OSB)


... is an art project which reports on landmines and their victims by bringing them into a visible and traceable relationship. "One Step Beyond" was and is presented at exhibitions worldwide. In addition, there is an extensive Website and a book publication which was awarded the German Photo Book Prize 2006/07.

For OSB, people injured by a mine recalled the events leading up to the accident. Some made a rough sketch of the incident's location. Following the conversation they were then portrayed by me using a large format camera.

With the help of these reports, using military and mine maps, and based on information provided by minesweepers I researched into those mines that could have caused the accidents. These were photographed and extensively documented.

OSB took me to four countries which are among the most heavily mined in the world: Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cambodia.
